Re: to clarify the requirements on the location protocol?
It seems pretty quiet on the list right now so I'll add my two cents to
this. I believe that we should provide location information at the lowest
layers of the protocol stack - at the ICMP layer. In this way into would be
relatively "low cost" to get the information. Secondly, the encoding of the
data should take the format of ASN.1 with one of the standard encoding
schemes. Thirdly, we should provide an extensible set of information in the
location, mandating that at least the longitude/latitude be given, if so
enabled at the machine. Finally, "additional" location can be included in
the packet, if so allowed by the site, and the information be identified in
a supplemental document.
